	Barbara Hughston July 17th | 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM During this class, taught by Barbara Hughston, participants will use the freshest and best ingredients to create Healthy Summer Snacks for the Beach. Fee Includes: Admission for participant and parent into the Ocean Institute, class, materials, PLUS Barbara's cookbook, "In the Kitchen with Kids".
	Derek Sabori July 24th | 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM Join the author, Derek Sabori for a morning of storytelling, light eco-lessons and creative insight. Fee Includes: Admission for participant and parent into the Ocean Institute, class, materials, PLUS Derek's book, "Lu and the Earth Bug Crew ZAP the Energy Spikes".
	Shaun Tomson August 28th | 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM Join the professional artist and author as he introduces you to a world of unusual creatures that live in the surf zone from his book, "Surf Creatures A-Z". Fee Includes: Admission for participant and parent into the Ocean Institute, class, materials, PLUS Shaun's book, "Surf Creatures A-Z".

Elements Tour 2010

The Elements Tour aims to:

• CONNECT the dots between outdoor recreation, conservation, and sustainable living.
• INFORM people about how to support local conservation efforts.
• INSPIRE people of all ages to experience nature through outdoor recreation and to actively work to protect our natural playgrounds. 

A guided tour of the Headland Nature Preserve will begin at 11:00 AM.  Interested parties should meet at the Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center.  Elements Tour presentations and movie showings will begin at 11:00 AM at the Ocean Institute and continue throughout the day. 

Meet "Baby"  
A former Japanese fire truck, Baby is the Elements Tour’s one-of-a-kind vehicle, resident celebrity, and mobile classroom. She has currently traveled further than any other vehicle in the world without petroleum fuel.

• Runs on waste restaurant grease that is converted into usable fuel with an on-board processor
• Collects and stores energy from wind, solar and kinetic sources and stores it in a large battery bank
• Has a 2,800 watt DC-AC inverter that creates household electricity from the batteries – plenty of power for Elements Tour events and off-the-grid living
• Features pop out tents that sleep six, a full kitchen and a retractable spiral staircase that leads to an upper canopy deck

Seafarer’s Guided Expedition aboard the Brig Pilgrim

The Ocean Institute invites you to experience California history through the life of 19^th century sailors aboard the Brig Pilgrim. You may choose to tour the ship at your own leisure during the Open House period or the crew will lead you through the Pilgrim during the Seafarer's Guided Expedition where adults and children can participate in activities such as moving cargo, raising the staysail, knot tying or gunnery.  Guided expedition is approximately 30-45 minutes long.  Sign up at the front desk.  Tour reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis.  Space is limited.
