I had such a wonderful time at the Ocean Institute last week. I was so impressed at the time every member of the panel took with their fans after the lecture. Such generosity is not often seen in the world of celebrity, and it showed me once again how special the surf culture is. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Bentley The evening was one of the best events I ever attended regarding the surf industry, which is very close to my heart. Very very good job ! Would have like to have a more open Q & A format at the end, with the audience. Have a great day and all the best. R. Ohl

Words can't describe the feeling these big wave surfers have when they catch their wave! Lucky for the rest of us, the Ocean Institute assembled 5 of them in one event and we learned so much through their experience. The evening went by so quickly, it seems we just got started watching their fabulous videos and presentations and hearing each one relate his personal story! AND Jason's photography shows the majesty of the ocean in a way I've never seen it before--it's absolutely beautiful! I wish we were still listening.
Thanks to the Ocean Institute for bringing such top quality ocean-related programs to the community and members!!!
Can't wait for the next one.

Thank you for a memorable evening. We very much have enjoyed the Artist by the Sea program and look forward to more exciting and inspirational guests! We are members and have come to every single one of these that you have offered and we love them. My daughter was simply amazed to get to meet Greg Long, Mike Parsons, and Gary Linden. However, I believe her favorite guest is still Wyland. Thanks again to Dan and Bently and their team for giving this to the community.

Once again I had an amazing evening at the Ocean Institute's Artist by the Sea Event! This time, Wednesday, April 17, 2009 the Ocean Institute (OI) had an incredible event offering us (who were lucky enough to attend) a rare glimpse into the lives of some of the biggest names out there who chase and surf Big Waves. People like our local favorites from San Clemente - Mike Parsons and Greg Long; old school surfer and shaper - Gary Linden; Surfline creator - Sean Collins; and surfing enthusiast and photographer - Jason Murray. Having only been able to live precariously through these legends by reading about them in magazines and watching them in videos, I was stoked to have seen and heard them in person thanks to the OI putting this event together. The incredible photographs by Murray and the classic big wave guns shaped by Linden that surrounded us during the event only enriched the whole experience. While looking at photographs, watching videos and listening to them share their experiences, along with them giving us play by play accounts of how they find these waves with the help of Collins, their chase, how they mentally and physically prepare themselves for the challenge, what's going through their minds when they are dropping in on them, and the spiritual experience they receive when they come out the other end unscathed made me experience and feel their passion. I was totally entranced. Having meet them each individually after the event when they stuck around for autographs and casual conversation then realizing that they are just like me in that they at one point in their lives had a dream of chasing, surfing and living the "lifestyle" of big wave surfing, it has given me the courage to get out and Go Big. Thanks guys for the show and thanks OI for the venue. William H. Dana Point

The guest panel was a great idea and to be able to talk to them, hear their thoughts about their experience was fantastic (I’ve become friends with Gary Linden and ordered a surfboard from him this weekend!)
The facility and location is wonderful for any ocean related topic or event. The social gathering beforehand, the way the staff checked people in, the components of the event itself were great. I felt welcome like I was amongst friends.

Dan and Bentley, Thanks so much for having a really cool event at the Ocean Institute. The panelists were all very humble and accessible. My son and I were (and still are) stoked! We learned and laughed a lot. It was great to see that Greg Long won the Billabong XXL grand prize. It couldn't have gone to a nicer, more deserving person! Aloha, RP

This was one of the most interesting of all the series. To listen to how they track these waves all over the world, and the scientific methods they use to do it was fascinating. It put surfing in a whole different light and shows how connected we all are to the ocean. OI is a great place for this event and I look forward to seeing more of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed it! I thought the room was set up great and even with all the people, and some standing. It was fine, since it wasn't a formal event. I really liked the way the tropical stage was set up and how they passed the microphone to use for their comments. I was a great mix of old timers, mid-timers (Pete Mel) and the young Greg Long. Personally I never get tired of seeing surfing footage and hearing first hand about the experiences they had. I saw many guys sitting on the edge of their chairs for those "Oh My God" moments. For anyone who really wanted to see some spectacular surfers first hand, meet them and get an autograph, it was a perfect intimate setting. I loved all the kids in front. If there was a 2nd nite, I would have gone again!! EHD

The Quintessential Southern California family surfing event. It was exciting, educational and awe inspiring. A very special intimate evening with some of the greats of big wave surfing! Hi Bentley, I want to thank you, your board, staff and sponsors for a terrific lecture at the Ocean Institute on Wednesday evening. In addition, thank you for the wonderful food and drinks. Our company was well represented at the event and I even included my family. Everyone really enjoyed the lecture and the visual presentation! The kids were very excited to meet Mike Parsons and Greg Long and to receive signed posters from them. Many thanks for including us and we look forward to supporting and attending future events with you! DM

Great work Bently and everyone else involved. A great group of speakers and other than a few glitches, great audio visual. More shows like this and you will have to add-on to the auditorium. Also thanks for the special attention you showed all the future surfers in the front row. Jack

What an insight to a world I would never be in! These guys are amazing. Hearing about their expiriences under the waves and how each adventure is a carefully calculated risk. Even the nods to education and telling the little "groms" down in front to stay in school so that they can be there when the next big wave sets come in. Thanks and see you next time! Eric

What an evening, it hit me when I got home, this was something that was not just important for the institute, but also important to the bigger picture outside of the institute. It was an event important to our communities. It really was amazing. I went home feeling very fortunate to have been there and to have shared it with my family. It was so great to converse with Greg, Mike, Sean, Jason, Gary and Peter and their families on a personal level after the show. Thank you, Thank you, Thanks!

The Artist by the Sea event with the big wave surfers was extremely fun! I enjoyed hearing about their surfing experiences from around the world! What a life!! Greg Long was funny when he told the story about his close encounter with a tiger shark! The photography of the waves really puts the waves in perspective, as to how big they really are!! And, the videos were incredible! Overall it was a great night! Thanks to the Ocean Institute!

Dear Ocean Institute, Last night's event was unbelievable. It is so amazing to have arguably the best big wave surfers all in one room. I kept looking at the stage and could not believe the panel of guests. Gary's passion, Mike's honesty, Greg's insight, Pete's humor, Sean's teaching and Jason's commentary ... I felt as though I was witnessing history. They were all wonderful. It was great to learn a little personal story from each one of them. Thank you, all of you, for giving this community an experience that may never happen again. I don't know how you did it, but I am so glad you did.
