Sea Squirts Camp

Age: 5-6
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm

This camp brings children’s literature to life as your child meets the characters of books about the ocean. Each day a book will introduce a new theme for the day’s activities. I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry will introduce the theme of big and little as your child observes the 17-foot tentacle of a giant squid or looks at plankton under a microscope. The program includes fun crafts and encounters with a variety of sea life.

Neptune's Nautiloids Camp
Age: 6–7

Become an undersea detective as you investigate some of the mysteries of the deep! In this exciting camp, your child will learn how scientists study the world around us by using real scientific tools and techniques to solve a week’s worth of underwater mysteries. Each day will introduce a fun new puzzle to unravel, as well as onsite outdoor explorations and themed crafts. Highlights include exploring the Dana Point Marine Protected Area and a cruise on board the R/V Sea Explorer.

Buccaneer Adventure Camp – NEW!
Age: 7–8

Set a course for adventure as we go back in time to the Golden Age of Sail, to a world of wooden ships, buried treasure and yes... pirates! Learn what life was like for pirates at sea and experience the lost arts of the mariners. Each day is filled with activities that challenge young sailors including fun crafts, sail handling, rowing, story telling, treasure hunts, encountering historic characters from the past, and going up the mast in a boatswain’s chair. Young lads and lasses may even cross paths with other pirates during the week! Adventures are dockside aboard the tallship Pilgrim the Maritime Learning Center.

Ocean Discovery Camp
Age: 8–9

What do you call a scientist who studies the ocean? An oceanologist? Find out what kind of “ologist” you’d like to be as you explore the many different fields of ocean science. Become an ichthyologist and study fish. Explore the seafloor as a marine geologist and use underwater robots to investigate the depths. Learn how ecologists study the animals in different ocean habitats. Other camp highlights include a walk into the Dana Point Marine Protected Area, a two-hour adventure cruise aboard the R/V Sea Explorer, and a field trip to the SEA LIFE Aquarium next door to LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad.

Seafarer's Odyssey Camp - New!
Age: 9-10
Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm

Sailing, rowing, steam power, and remote controls.  These are all ways we have explored our oceans.  At Seafarer's Odyssey Camp, we experience them all with fun, hands-on activities.  Our odyssey begins in the Golden Age of Sail aboard a traditional tallship and continues through time, culminating onboard our modern research vessel. 

During the week, the adventurers will have the opportunity to crew and set sail aboard the Spirit of Dana Point (including working the helm and firing the ship's cannon!), row traditional longboats, explore sea legends and lore, race miniature steamboats, and investigate the harbor floor with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).  From the past to the present, join us as we go on a maritime adventure through time that you will not soon forget!

Coastal Explorer Camp
Age: 10-12

Explore the beautiful, unique coastline of Dana Point in this activity-packed camp. Throughout the week, you will study the science of the surf zone in our laboratory and onboard the R/V Sea Explorer. You’ll also have a chance to participate in fun activities focusing on marine animals and their environment. This camp includes a day of fishing along the coastline with a chance to look for blue whales, scientific sampling aboard our research vessel, kayaking in Dana Point Harbor, tidepool exploration, and a day at the beach!
